Kearbey competes in USA Grand Prix

This weekend, 15-year-old Katie Kearbey -- who is a Nevada High School freshman -- has qualified and will compete among some of the world's greatest. The Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo., is the third stop of the eight-meet USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that awards the overall winner a $20,000 grand prize. This draws the likes of many elite swimmers. The lineup for this weekend includes 14-time Olympic gold medalist, Michael Phelps, along with many others such as gold medalist Ryan Lochte, Garrett Weber-Gale, Eric Shanteau, Keri Hehn and about 15 other Olympic and national team members. The event draws even elite international swimmers from 13 other countries including, Japan's breastroke legend Kosuke Kitajima. Kearbey is currently ranked 2nd in the 200 yard butterfly among 15- to 16-year-olds in Missouri Valley which is made up of more than 5,000 swimmers from Missouri and Kansas. --Submitted Photo
