Tigers struggle at Pleasant Hill
PLEASANT HILL, Mo. -- A stiff south/southwest wind on a flat, open course proved to be a major course of issue for the Nevada Tigers golf team Thursday afternoon as they took on Pleasant Hill at the Country Creek Golf Course. "Windy, windy and windy ... Then it was windy some more," Tigers head coach Brian Leonard said. "The course layout is flat and open, so the wind was a factor on every hole."
The 25-30 mph sustained winds that gusted up to 35 mph at times forced the Tigers to add up to three extra clubs to achieve some of the desired distances, Leonard said, and caused noticeable struggles gauging the wind and figuring out what club to adjust to. The Tigers ultimately adjusted as well as conditions would allow, finishing the course with a team total of 192.
Alex Christensen led the way for the Tigers with an overall score of 42 -- the best score of the day among all participants -- on the front nine of the par-36 rock course. Joseph Ferry wasn't far behind as he finished at 43, followed by Justin Carter at 51, Trevor Landis, 56, and Taylor Handly, 61.
Nevada's two JV golfers -- Ty Peckman and Colby Moorhouse -- finished at 55 and 69, respectively.
The next outing for the Tigers is set for Monday, when they head to Adams Pointe Golf Course in Blue Springs, Mo., -- the same course on which the district tournament will by played in May -- for the Grain Valley Eagle Invitational tournament.
