Thornton E. Spencer
Thornton E. Spencer, 91, of Nevada, passed away on March 30, 2010, at the home of his daughter.
Thornton was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Clinton, Ill., to Carl and Minnie M. (Florey) Spencer. He grew up in Vernon County, Mo., and graduated from Walker High School in 1937. Thornton spent his life as a farmer in the Walker area before moving to Nevada.
He leaves behind a daughter, Mary Greenhagen and husband, Randy; grandchildren Dustin Stafford, Latisha Douglas, Tyson Stafford and Travis Williams; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Thelma Wade, of Thomasville, Ga., and Wilma Kennedy, of Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Thornton was preceded in death by his parents are brothers, Ralph and Dean Spencer.
Thorton was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother. He loved going to Las Vegas and playing bingo and pool.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 2, at 10:30 a.m., Evergreen Memorial Chapel, in Nevada, with pastor Terry Mosher officiating. Interment was in Newton Burial Park, in Nevada. Pallbearers were: Dustin Stafford, Travis Williams, Jason Douglas, Doug Lile, Ron Kennedy and Jim Spencer. Honorary pallbearers: Tyson Stafford, Steven Stafford, John Kirbey and Randy Greenhagen.
Arrangements were under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Chapel, in Nevada.
