Ronald Raymond Durbin Sr.
Ronald Raymond Durbin Sr., age 68, resident of Fort Scott, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at his home following a cancer illness. He was born May 16, 1941, in Devon, Kan., the son of Ward Augustus Durbin and Ethel Caroline Phillips Durbin. He served his country in the United States Army. He married Carol Deanette Merriman on Oct. 9, 1965. He worked as a foreman for Mid-Continental Restoration from 1989 until his retirement in 2007. Ronald was a lifetime member of V.F.W Post No. 1165 and the American Legion. He greatly enjoyed woodworking as well as gardening. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife Carol of the home, one son, Ron Durbin and wife Shannon, Arcadia, Kan.; one daughter, Annette Bogan and husband Loren, Prescott, Kan.; and eight grandchildren, Autumn Schoneberg, Chance Schoneberg, Brooklyn Bogan, Brenlyn Bogan, Brilyn Bogan, Brianna Bogan, Blaine Bogan and Blake Bogan. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jess Francis Durbin Sr. and Charles Robert Durbin, two infant grandchildren, Brett Bogan and Loren Bogan, as well as his parents.
Father Darrin May will conduct the Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m., Monday, April 19, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the St. Michael's Cemetery, Fulton, Kansas. Military honors will be conducted by Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m., Sunday in the Cheney Witt Chapel. The family will receive friends following the Rosary from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's Catholic School and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS, 66701.
