JV track competes at Fort Scott
The Nevada Tigers and Lady Tigers junior varsity track team competed at Fort Scott High School Tuesday.
Sophomore Kyle Bennett had the best performance of the day for the Tigers as he brought home three top-five finishes. Bennett took second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.75 seconds and in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.5 seconds while taking fifth in the pole vault at 9 feet, 6 inches.
Brandon Norton, Dalton Shunkwiler and Morgan Hold all brought home top-five finishes while the Tigers' 4-by-100 relay team took sixth in 49.5 seconds. Norton finished fifth in the 100-meter dash in 12.1 seconds while Shunkwiler took fifth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:15 and Hold was fifth in the high jump at 5-4.
For the girls, JaLynn Heckadon and Melissa Mosbrucker each brought home two top-six individual finishes. Heckadon took second in the 400-meter run in 1:06 and sixth in the 200-meter dash in 30.4 seconds, while Mosbrucker took fourth in pole vault at 6-6 and fifth in high jump at 4-2.
Bailey Jones finished third in discus with a distance of 81-1 and Cheryl Odinga took third in pole vault at 7 feet even.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers are set to get back into varsity action on Friday as they head to Girard, Kan., for the Girard Invitational.
