Nevada police chief resigns

Nevada City Manager JD Kehrman announced Monday that Gary Herstein has resigned as Nevada Chief of Police, retiring from that position, and that Captain Casey Crain has been named acting Chief of Police.

The city will begin advertising for a new chief of police later this month.

Herstein has been Nevada's director of public safety since 2006.

Did he resign or retire? Which ever it is he will be missed. Thank you for all you did for our city Chief Herstein.

Well Leland you are wrong again, he was not a good Chief. And who cares if he resigned or retired, all that matters is he is gone and there is one less person pulling a pay check from the city for doing nothing.

I have to say hound that you are the one who is wrong. He was a good police chief and he will be missed. No one else could have done more with what he had to work with. Course now you will reply with your dribble and you know that is your right. Course it is our right to disagree with you. Makes me wonder who will be next.

I would like to wish Mr. Herstein the best in his future endeavors. He has served our city well in his long tenure, and deserves credit where credit is due.

Nicely put Mr. Lipe. He has had to make due often with very little. Best wishes to you Mr. Herstein. We have lost many good officers in the past few years, and you are one of them.

To outsiders it always looks like the guy at the top is doing nothing. There are alot of stresses being at the helm and I think Gary did a great job and still had a great deal of common sense. He would not be the type of person to use force and ask questions later, he would try to reason his way through problems. Happy retirement, Gary! Also good luck to Casey Crain, maybe he can hold on to the postion.

"truthseeker67" well one thing i do agree with you on is that I do have the right to respond. And what I say is not "dribble", I would tell you if you dont beleave me just ask any of NPDs officers how they feel about gary, but i dont think you would get an honest answer from them for fear of loosing their job or being reprimanded. And to speedy I wasnt always an out sider looking in so I know first hand he did nothing.
