Registration under way for Bushwhacker Days triathlon for youth

Bushwhacker Days will have an activity designed to provide a safe, drug and alcohol free environment for Vernon County high school age youth. The 2010 Bushwhacker Triathlon Tournament of Champions consists of basketball, kickball and dodge-ball June 7, 10 and 11 in the evenings at either the Nevada High School gym or the community center.

If enough five-player teams sign up there will be four divisions; a boys and a girls division of freshmen and sophomores in one division and juniors and seniors in the second.

Monday, June 7, will have a kickball tournament with two outs per inning and five innings per game. Thursday, June 10, will have 4 on 4 basketball with one substitute. Two point goals count as one point, three point shots count as three, first team to 15 wins. On Friday, June 11 there will will be a dodge-ball tournament. Normal bombardment rules apply, face shots and you're out.

The tournament is open to Vernon County students entering grades 9, 10, 11 and 12. It is free -- the only requirements; good behavior and sportsmanship and an approved entry form, available at room 204, Nevada High School any time the week of May 24 to May 28. Forms must be returned to Kevin McKinley by June 1.

The tournament is sponsored by a subcommittee of the Vernon County Youth Task Force.
