Meeting on city's master plan set for Thursday
If you are interested in the direction Nevada heads in the future the city of Nevada is interested in hearing from you during a public meeting to discuss updating the city's comprehensive plan at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center.
"We hope the people of Nevada will come out and get involved in this project," Blake Hertzberg, Nevada Planning Commission chairman, said.
"For this to be successful we need community input," he said.
The last time the city's comprehensive plan was completely re-written was in 1984, with an update done in 2001.
"A comprehensive plan is ideally more than a land use plan. It is a shared vision of a community," JD Kehrman, Nevada city manager said.
That is why it is so important to have input from a wide group of Nevada residents. It should not just be based on information from the city council or the city staff, Kehrman said.
He said that a well done comprehensive plan can help answer questions like: Is my neighborhood safe or how does the percent of rental houses impact the delivery of services, where should the city's streets, sewers and water lines be extended in the future.
Kehrman said that he would like to see business leaders, community leaders, and any other Nevada residents who are interested in the future of the town.
"I hope to have a lot of forward thinking people. This is an opportunity to talk about where we're going," he said.
"I told our consultants that if we don't end up with a strategic implementation guide, we have failed," Kehrman said.
"For $76,000 we should be able to do that," he said.
