Ross Wolfe, left, and Dominic Habjan, right, are the recipients of the two memorial awards that were presented during the annual Nevada High School Senior Recognition Night May 14. These two awards are based on the character of the athlete, as well as his athletic ability.
Ross Wolfe, who played basketball and baseball, is the 2010 recipient of the Roger Kennedy award. This award is presented in memory of Roger Kennedy, who was a track and basketball athlete in the early 1970s at NHS. Kennedy, who was known for his leadership and character, died from leukemia during the summer of 1973, between his junior and senior years. For the past 36 years this award has been presented to the senior boy who best exemplifies the following criteria: Good athlete, unselfishness, love of fellow athlete, sportsmanship, attitude toward younger children and attitude toward coaches and teachers.
Dominic Habjan, who participated in cross country, wrestling and tennis, is the 2010 recipient of the Robert Williams Memorial Wrestling Award. Robert Williams, who was a young man with a high moral character and a beloved member of the NHS wrestling team, died in a car accident in the fall of 1987. This award has been presented since the spring of 1988 to an NHS wrestler selected by the head wrestling coach based on the following attributes: Excellent character, school leader, respected by his peers, a practicing Christian, high moral values.
