NEVADA -- The Nevada Neptunes had a very successful weekend at the Neptunes Invitational, finishing second behind the defending league champion Joplin Stingrays. A total of 300 swimmers from 12 teams across the area participated in the two-day meet held July 3 and 4, at the Walton Family Aquatic Center. The Neptunes brought 71 swimmers between the ages of 4 and 17 years to the meet.

Many Neptunes had successful days, but two stood out among the crowd, earning first place honors in their division. Mikayla Mohrmann finished in a tie for first in the 10-and-under Girls' Division. Mohrmann broke two team records over the weekend, bettering her own record in the 50-yard Freestyle and setting a new record in the 100-yard Individual Medley. Andrei Ziabchenko finished in a tie for first in the 11- to 12-year-old boys division.

Nathan Johnson, 6-and-under boys; Sophia Wehrmann, 8-and-under girls; and Cazden Del Chiaro, 15-18 boys, all earned second place in their respective divisions. Grant Miller, 8-and-under boys; and Tayrin Schmitt, 15-18 girls, earned third place honors.

The Neptunes will swim in the Carthage Invitational this weekend before hosting Lamar in a dual on Wednesday, July 14. The meet will begin at 6 p.m.

The Neptunes would like to thank the following businesses for their donations of goods and services that helped to make the event a success: Caveners, city of Nevada Parks and Rec., McDonalds, Nevada Vault, Sonic, and The White Grill.
