Utility worker dies after being struck by tree
An accident took the life of a utility worker Friday, when Osage Valley Electric Right of Way Foreman Steve Cowley was struck by a tree while clearing a right-of-way area near Rich Hill.
The company issued the following statement:
"Osage Valley Electric Cooperative suffered a terrible loss Oct. 6, 2010, in the death of Right-of-Way Foreman Steve Cowley. Steve was working in the Papinsville area southeast of Rich Hill when he was clearing a right-of-way and struck by a tree. His coworkers, trained in emergency rescue, did everything possible until the ambulance arrived. Osage Valley was informed shortly after 10:30 a.m. (Wednesday) that emergency personnel were unable to save his life.
"Steve began his work at Osage Valley on Dec. 13, 1998, as a dispatcher. He became journeyman of the Butler right-of-way crew on May 18, 2004.
"Osage Valley Electric Cooperative employees and directors are all deeply saddened, and offer our heartfelt sympathy to the Cowley family."
