Folklorist to present musical program Sunday
Nevada, Mo. -- Folklorist Matt Mea-cham will present "Rural Missouri: A Crossroads of American Roots Music," about the state's influence on the nation's musical heritage at 2 p.m.. Sunday, Oct. 17, at the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center in Nevada.
Meacham is a consultant with the Missouri Humanities Council for the Smithsonian's traveling exhibit now on display at the Bushwhacker Museum through Nov. 7. In his program he will feature live and recorded musical examples of ragtime, traditional fiddling, bluegrass and Southern gospel as roots music that makes up Missouri's musical tapestry.
Meacham teaches courses in folklore, anthropology and music at the Missouri State University campus in West Plains, and is a public folklorist with the West Plains Council on the Arts. His program is one of a series being sponsored by the Bushwhacker Museum during the exhibit.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
