Tiffani Long hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Nevada Lady Tigers beat the Reeds Spring Lady Wolves by a final score of 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Bushwhacker Field.
Nevada starter Christian Novak found herself in a pitcher's duel early with Reeds Spring's Andrea Studer in which neither pitcher allowed a hit through the first five innings. The difference was a single unearned run for Reeds Spring as a direct result of two Nevada errors until the sixth inning when the Lady Tigers tied the score with an unearned run of their own.
Long came to the plate in the home half of the seventh with a runner on and blasted her sixth homer of the year over the fence in center field to break the tie and end the game, signing the Lady Tigers' ticket to the state championship semifinal round. With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to 21-5 on the year and will play Cape Girardeau's Notre Dame High School at the Killian Complex in Springfield, Mo., at 10 a.m., Friday.
Full coverage of Saturday's contest will appear in the Tuesday edition of the Nevada Daily Mail.
