New chief of police starts work January 1
After a lengthy search Nevada City Manager JD Kehrman announced Wednesday that the city has hired Graham Burnley to head up the Nevada Police Department.
"I am pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Graham Burnley as Chief of Police. Mr. Burnley will begin serving the City on Jan. 1, 2011. He comes to Nevada from Chesterfield, Mo.,where he was a key player in establishing the Police Department upon incorporation of the City. He has served with distinction as a Commander with each Division of the Chesterfield Police Department. Mr. Burnley is a graduate of the FBI Academy, holds a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Management. He has been a police officer since 1974 in various cities, and has been with the Chesterfield Police Department since 1989.
"Mr. Burnley has an extensive background in law enforcement where he has held many positions that include: President of the Law Enforcement Officials of Greater St. Louis, member of the Crisis Intervention Team Coordinating Council, planning team member of the Regional Actions Plans Committee on Civil Disturbances, and Supervisor for the Homicide Division for the Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad. He is a certified trainer in the areas of Hazardous Materials/WMD Awareness, Community Emergency Response Team, and a National Incident Management Systems Commander.
"During his long and distinguished career in the St. Louis metropolitan area, Mr. Burnley has cultivated a reputation as an innovator, a mentor, and a dedicated professional law enforcement officer. It is my privilege as City Manager to welcome him to the Nevada Police Department and our Community."
