Rich Hill woman killed in Dec. 16 crash
A fatal accident occurred one mile east of Metz on Thursday, Dec. 16.
Peggy L. Westerhold, 79, of Rich Hill was killed when she lost control of the 1999 Buick Century she was driving westbound on Dalton Road.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol online crash report, Westerhold lost control of the vehicle in loose gravel and exited the left side of the roadway. The vehicle then "struck an embankment and overturned, ejecting the driver." Westerhold was pronounced dead by Vernon County Coroner, David Ferry.
A passenger in the vehicle, Mary E. Sweet, 85, of Metz was transported to the Nevada Regional Medical center with moderate injuries. The crash report states that Westerhold was not wearing a safety device at the time of the accident.
Funeral services for Westerhold were held Monday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m., at the Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill, with the Rev. Bill Perkey officiating. Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Vernon County People for Pets, in care of Heuser Funeral Home.
