Cottey presents 'Life in a Jar' on March 26
Cottey College will present the world-renowned play "Life in a Jar" on Saturday, March 26, at 8 p.m. in the auditorium inside the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the arts, on the northeast corner of Austin and Tower streets in Nevada.
In 1999, a Uniontown, Kan., teacher encouraged four students to work on a National History Day project which would meet their classroom motto, "He who changes one person, changes the world entire." They discovered a Catholic woman who saved 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942-'43. The majority of the rescue work of taking children out of the Warsaw Ghetto was done in the summer of 1942 in a three-month period, according to www.irenasendler.org.
The student-written play has been performed more than 270 times around the world. With millions of hits on the Web site, worldwide media attention, and a Hallmark movie, Irena Sendler is now known to the world.
The Life in a Jar cast has presented in 21 states and three countries. The Web site, in a period of six years, has had 1.7 million visitors and 29 million hits. The Life in a Jar study guide and DVD of the play has reached more than 250,000 students in more than 2,000 schools. Tickets for "Life in a Jar" are $8 for adults and $6 for those under age 18 or over age 62. Tickets will be available at the door the night of the show.
Financial assistance was provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
