Golf team taks sixth place
The Nevada High School golf team tied for sixth place with St. Mary's Colgan, out of a 17 team field, finishing four strokes behind Pittsburg and Mount Vernon, Monday in the Miami (Okla.) Invitational Golf Tournament at the Pea Ridge Golf Course.
In individual results, Alex Christensen finished in a three-way for fourth place with a 76, Joseph Ferry tied for 12th with 80, Eliajah Soliclum tied for 40th with 91 and Trevor Landis and Taylor Hanley tied for 48 with 93 each.
"For the competition at this tournament I was very proud of the boys. They fought back after their first nine holes to improve by 19 strokes as a team." Brian Leonard, Nevada's golf coach, said.
Leonard said the day started off at 44 degrees, with the sun peeking out for a couple of hours.
Despite the cold weather and the wet and soggy course, Leonard said the players had some good rounds and the two top 15 finishes.
"Joseph, Elijah, Trevor and Taylor all improved their scores from the first nine they played. Taylor and Trevor improved their scores by 3 strokes, Joseph improved his score by 6 strokes, Elijah improved by 7 strokes. Alex played to a consistent 38-38," Leonard said.
Their next currently scheduled match will be Monday, April 4, at the Bird-Dog Invitational hosted by Webb City at Briarbrook Country Club.
