Clash over puppy ownership leads to arrest

Friday, April 29, 2011

An argument over who owns a brown pit bull puppy led to the arrest of 25-year-old Heather N. Sheets, Nevada, on charges of assaulting a police officer, misdemeanor assault and resisting arrest.

Nevada police responded to the scene of the puppy-ownership dispute in the 1100 block of North Main Street on Monday, where the victim had allegedly been assaulted by Sheets, who had already left the scene by the time police arrived. Police later located Sheets, who had the puppy in her possession, in the 600 block of North Cedar.

A police department press release said Sheets threw the puppy in the direction of the officers and attempted to flee but was later caught after a short altercation during which the release says an officer was assaulted.

The puppy was safely caught by police officers and is being held at the Nevada Animal Shelter so food and any required medical attention can be administered to the puppy while ownership is determined.
