Actor John Goodman peers into a a gift bag containing a card, a Popeye CD and other items presented to him in El Dorado Springs, Mo., on Saturday, April 30, by the players of the Children's Lighthouse Theater. The children gave Goodman the gift bag after an informal question and answer session held just for the kids and their parents in the Opera House in El Dorado Springs. Goodman was in El Dorado Springs as the guest of honor at the third annual Lighthouse Gala held Saturday evening. More than 350 guests from the surrounding area and across the country gathered to hear Goodman and many others speak about the work of the children's theater, acting and Goodman's time at Southwest Missouri State University, now Missouri State University.

Goodman told the children that the best acting theory he ever heard came from Al Pacino. "It's all pretend," he said. During both events Goodman answered questions about himself, his career and acting from event emcee Ned Reynolds of KY/3 TV in Springfield, Mo., the kids and attendees of the red carpet gala. The evening gala featured several speakers, live entertainment, a meal catered by the Gobbler's Roost Restaurant and a silent auction of Goodman memorabilia and other items.
