Cottey basketball signs pair
NEVADA -- Cottey College head basketball coach Dave Ketterman has signed two more players to play for the Comets next season.
Jessica Holland of Everton, Mo., a 5' 9" forward, averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds, 3.9 steals, 3.6 assists and 1.1 blocked shots per game for her team. In her career at Everton, she scored over 1,500 points and hauled down over 1,100 rebounds. She was named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-District three times each.
"Jessica had an outstanding high school career and is one who I believe can get much better at the college level," Ketterman said. "She will play the small forward for us and we will look for her to stretch the floor with her ability to shoot. I think she complements our other signees very well with her ability to score in a variety of ways."
Chelsea Rowland, a 5' 4" guard is from Skyline High School in Urbana, Mo., which had a record of 130-20 in her four years there. In that time, Rowland helped lead her team to two Mid-Lake Conference championships, three District championships. Skyline went to two Missouri State Final Fours, finishing as champions in 2007-08 and runner-up in 2008-09.
Rowland scored 564 points in her career at Skyline and was a MLC Honorable Mention selection in 2010 and a Second Team pick this past season.
"Chelsea is an outstanding all-around guard," Ketterman said. "She has excellent ball skills, can get it to the rim, stop and pop off the dribble and shoot the three. She is an excellent on-ball defender and will play a significant role in our schemes for next year.
"We will look for her to be a scorer for us and I am really pleased to have a player of her abilities from one of the best high-school programs in the state."
