Pink fire truck to visit Nevada Saturday
When Saturday's Bushwhacker Days festival goers pass by the Guardians of the Ribbon's fire truck they won't see red, but the sight they'll see is likely to make them look twice. The Guardians' fire engine is pink, and the special rig, accompanied by firefighters who care enough to wear pink -- even pink turnout gear -- are coming to Nevada as part of its "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" campaign, to raise awareness of and support women in their battles with cancer.
"We would be honored if you would stop by the truck and sign In Honor Of or In Memory Of a special woman in your life. All survivors will receive a free hug as well," the group said in a press release.
The "Cares Enough to Wear Pink" campaign is the fastest growing movement in the country. Its members selflessly put women first in their battle against cancer; "at the very least we wear her color to let her know we CARE!" the release said.
The Guardians say they will drive pink fire engines and dress in the pink fire gear, to honor and support all women, healthy and the ones in the fight for their lives, and ask everyone else to do the same. We hope that the country will see the color pink, not just as a benefit for breast cancer, but as a way to support women in their fight against all cancers. If the world was in pink, it would lift her spirits; it would show the world that we are tired of the suffering due to this terrible disease.
Nevada Fire Chief Bob Benn said local firefighters will wear pink shirts in support of the campaign, and the pink truck will be easy to find -- near Walnut and Main, near the site where firefighters plan to present an extrication demonstration at 10 a.m., Saturday.
