Father-child event slated
Today (June 18), the Nevada Housing Authority will host a Father/Child Fun Day in the Park from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Walton Park in Nevada.
There will be fishing for fathers and children. Participants should bring their own poles if they have them and bait. A limited number of poles will be available to check out. One-Two-Three Bounce will provide inflatables for the event and there will be a small train for the fathers to take a ride on the lake with their children. A dual water slide will also be on site and is appropriate for all ages, so dress accordingly and bring a towel. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided as supplies last.
Information will be shared and promoted about the various programs and activities in the community that fathers can get involved in with their children. Male mentors will also be encouraged to attend and should contact Carol Branham at (417) 448-2730 if they are interested in volunteering.
The event is open to all family members. Community faith groups and organizations are encouraged to participate. There is no charge to attend, but the Missouri Department of Conservation fishing regulations normally enforced at Walton Lake do apply to this event.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is placing emphasis on the importance of partnerships in communities and particularly the value of parks and recreation resources, programs and facilities. "We have a great relationship with the city and are proud to be sponsoring this event at Walton Park," said Branham.
