Fort Scott 12-year-olds pitcher Brady Tourtillott delivers a pitch to an awaiting Emporia batter during the first inning of Thursday night's Cal Ripken Baseball League District Championship Tournament at Don Hewitt Field in Fort Scott. Fort Scott 12-year-olds lost to Emporia and were eliminated from the tournament.

Cal Ripken Baseball League action continued in Fort Scott Thursday and Friday as local teams fought to advance to the state championship tournament.

The Fort Scott 12-year-olds faced Emporia Thursday evening at Don Hewitt Field in Fort Scott. Emporia jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as Fort Scott lost the game 13-10. Thursday evening's loss was Fort Scott's second in the double-elimination tournament, and they will not advance to the state tournament.

It was a different story for the Fort Scott 13-year-olds, who took on Osawatomie for two games Thursday night in Osawatomie. Offense was not a problem for Fort Scott as they took both games 14-9 and 29-9 to advance to the state tournament in Garden City. The state tournament is slated to begin with opening ceremonies on July 21 with play starting on July 22.

Also advancing to the state tournament are the Fort Scott 10-year-olds who shut out Emporia Thursday evening in Osawatomie 24-0. The 10-year-old state tournament will be held in Oswego with opening ceremonies beginning July 14 and games following the next day.

Although they will automatically qualify for the state tournament because they are the host team, the Fort Scott 9-year-olds want to leave not doubt they are a contender in the tournament. In Osawatomie, the 9-year-olds battled Emporia Thursday night and lost a close game, 9-8. Fort Scott was undefeated going into Thursday's game and took on Emporia again Friday, at 6 p.m., in Osawatomie, for the district championship.

The Fort Scott 11-year-olds looked to repeat Wednesday's results and get another win over Osawatomie Friday evening at Don Hewitt Field in Fort Scott to advance to the district championship game. The winner of that game took on Emporia Friday night for the championship. The 11-year-old state championship will be held in Council Grove with opening ceremonies July 14 and games following the next day.
