Temperatures exceed 100 degrees

A heat advisory is in effect through this evening as dangerously hot temperatures cast a smothering blanket over the area. Temperatures surpassed 100 degrees on Monday and are expect to soar nearly as high today, with heat index values expected to reach 104 today, the National Weather Service said Monday.

Area residents are urged to take extra precautions to guard against heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and if heat stroke is suspected, call 911 immediately.
