Nevada City Council OKs fire truck grant to Schell City department

It took the Nevada City Council about 7 minutes to vote 3-0, with council members Jayne Novak and James McKenzie excused, to make it official: The Schell City Rural Fire Department is now the owner of the city's 1982 Ford C8000 Smeal Pumper truck. The truck was retired from service when the city put its new front-line pumper into service and was offered to the area rural departments through a grant process. The Schell City department was the only department to apply and after their application was reviewed by the Nevada fire chief and the Nevada city manager, the council gave them the truck.

The council also voted 3-0 to move the next regular council meeting from Aug. 16 to Aug. 15, to accommodate Mayor Brian Leonard and council member Jayne Novak's schedules. The Nevada High School's annual meet the players is also scheduled for Aug. 16, and Leonard is the golf coach and Novak's daughter is on the softball team.

Howitzer, are you not the same one that, several months ago was carring on about how Nevada did not need a new truck and now it's a worthless piece of junk. Funny how things change.

So they gave away a worthless piece of junk? The city never did a cost benefit analysis on the truck if they did it was never made public. Do you think that the fire department in Schell city would take on a piece of junk? what would be the purpose. How many hours were on that truck and how many hours were on the pump? They bought the new truck on the same line of thinking that a women uses when she buys something she wants" well it was on sale so I saved you money". Fire departments like a lot of goverment agencies like to have new and shiney when old and shiney work just as well.

Just because something doesn't make the paper doesn't mean it didn't happen. This truck, according to previous news articles and blogs, was not in good working order. What was printed previously said that all departments were trying to put their equipment on a replacement rotation and maintain a consistent debt for the replacement of that equipment. The truck the department replaced was next to be replaced, needed to be replaced, and the newest truck the department had had it's final payment this year so the debt continuation fit. You should also remember the truck they replaced, that Schell City received, was not the truck that was in use at the time it was the one in the back up position. The truck that was being used went to the back up position when the new on was received by the department.
