Council to tackle lengthy agenda Monday
The Nevada City Council will be conducting a public hearing and considering on the first reading of a special ordinance setting the city's property tax rate for 2011 during a meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, in the Public Safety Building, 120 S. Ash Street. The meeting was rescheduled from Tuesday to Monday because of the fall Nevada High School Meet the Players night on Tuesday.
Unlike the short agenda the council has had for recent meetings, they have a lengthy agenda on tap for Tuesday including consideration of bids for a generator for the sewer camera van and an equipment lift system for the Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course that can also be used by other departments.
The council also will be considering a special ordinance that will permanent roll back the city's property tax for the parks to zero following the passage of a permanent 1/2-cent parks sales tax.
Other items on the agenda include a traveled portion right-of-way solicitors permit for the Nevada Fire Fighter's Local 3031 for Sept. 2-5 for the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon and an agreement with the Missouri Department of Transportation for improvements to sidewalk ramps along U.S. Highway 54 and Business 71 in Nevada.
Work at the Twin Lakes Sports Complex will also be on the council's agenda, with the consideration of granting a utility easement to Barton County Electric at the city's request and the consideration of a special ordinance approving the bid from Millers Construction Company, El Dorado Springs for the construction of a maintenance building at the Twin Lakes Sports Complex.
The council will also be considering a special ordinance adopting and reenacting the city's financial disclosure ordinance as required by state law.
Also on the agenda is an agreement with Vernon County and the Vernon County Assessor's Office to provide the assessment of real and personal property in the city limits for the city of Nevada, as well as, an agreement with the Vernon County Commission to have the county do the real estate and personal property tax billings and collection for the 2011 tax year.
Finally the council will be considering an agreement with the Missouri Department of Highways and Transportation Commission for the use of their global navigation satellite real time network with the city's newly acquired GPS unit for mapping the city's streets and utility infrastructure.
