NHS girls golf takes fifth at Bolivar

BOLIVAR -- Emmaly Ellis led the way for the Nevada High School girls golf team on Tuesday at the Bolivar Invitational at the Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club.

A junior, Ellis shot a 92 and finished sixth overall at the 13-team event.

Nevada Coach Brian Leonard said the greens played very fast.

"They got everybody today," Leonard said. "The course was in pristine condition, with the greens rolling faster than waxed glass. They were very fast."

As far as Ellis, she shot a 46 on the front nine and the back nine.

"She played okay," Leonard said. "She'll come around."

Also for Nevada, Hannah Householder shot a 103 and finished 11th overall.

Morgan Turner shot a 108, and Myra Ornelas finished with a 122.

Maddie Johnson (62) and Danielle Smith (58) combined for a 120.

As a team, Nevada took fifth place.

Nixa's Peyson Shields shot an 80 and easily took first place.

Ashley Childers of Mount Vernon and Republic's Baylee Rayl tied for second with scores of 89.

Nixa won the team title with a score of 403. Mount Vernon was second with a 409. Republic was third with a 416 and Nevada finished fifth in the team standings with a 423.

Coach Leonard said the course is where the MSHSAA Class 1 State Golf Tournament will be held on Oct. 17-18.

Nevada travels to Girard on Thursday. Tee-time is 9 a.m.
