Ellis, Turner lead NHS golf at Girard

GIRARD -- Emmaly Ellis and Morgan Turner led the way for the Nevada High School girls golf team on Thursday at the Girard Invitational at Girard Municipal Golf Course.

Ellis finished second overall and Turner was fourth. The pair led the Tigers to a third place team finish.

A junior, Ellis shot a 91 and was eight strokes behind first place winner Timbrelee McNair of Girard.

A senior, Turner finished with a 97 on the day.

Freshman Hannah Householder just missed the top 10 with her score of 104, which was good for 11th place.

Nevada freshman Danielle Smith shot a 129 to round out the low four scores for the team competition.

Also for Nevada, Jenny Mosbrucker shot a 132 and Maddie Johnson finished with a 140.

The host Trojans took first place on their home course with a team score of 414. Joplin was second with a 420 and Nevada was third with a 421.

Coach Brian Leonard's Tigers head to the Marshfield Invitational on Monday. Leonard said the course will be the location of the district tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
