MONETT -- Despite the weather, the Monett Invitational Tennis Tournament was held Friday. The Nevada Tigers were among the 14 teams that competed at the tourney, which was shortened due to the rain.
Nevada finished fourth in the final team standings.
The number-one doubles team of Leah Creasy and Regan Kimbrough reached the title match, but it was not held due to rain. NHS Coach Samantha Short said her players shared the number-one spot with Republic.
Creasy and Kimbrough had a first round bye and defeated Aurora's team 6-1 in the second round. Next, the Tigers defeated Webb City 6-4 in the semifinals. Again, the title match was not held.
Nevada's number-two doubles team of Brandi Perrin and Lauren Phillips lost to College Heights in the first round. Perrin and Phillips then defeated Lamar's team 6-4.
Clever's team defeated the NHS duo in the semifinals 6-6 (7-3). The Tigers would have played for third place against Webb City, but the two teams shared third after the match was called off.
Two singles players also competed for Nevada.
Alexa Cubbage played number-one singles and fell in the first round to Lamar, 6-2. Jessica DeCocq lost a first round match at number-two singles, falling to Republic 6-3.
"Both girls played well and took their opponents to deuce every time," Coach Short said.
The tourney featured Monett, Republic, College Heights, Lamar, Carl Junction, Thomas Jefferson, Reed Springs, Clever, Carthage, Aurora, Mount Vernon, Webb City, Neosho and Nevada.
Short's Tigers were scheduled to compete at Harrisonville on Monday. The Tigers are home on Thursday against Carthage at 4:30 p.m.
