Ruby Arlene Hoover, 81, resident of Fort Scott, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Mercy Heath Center of Fort Scott. She was born Oct. 20, 1929, in Arcadia, Kan., the daughter of Oliver and Laura Perrin Hoover.

She was a graduate of Arcadia High School. She worked for 43 years as a sewing machine operator for the Key Overall Factory in Fort Scott, later renamed Key Industries.

Ruby became a Christian at an early age and was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, Hannon, Mo. She attended First Southern Baptist Church of Fort Scott for many years. Ruby's favorite pastime was being with her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed family get-togethers on holidays, traveling, embroidering, quilting, cooking for church dinners, and helping in Vacation Bible School.

Survivors include three sisters, Marie Marshall, Fort Scott, Ruth Koester, Fort Scott, and Dr. Retha Kilpatrick Gries, Cullowhee, North Carolina. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harold, Ralph and Eldon Hoover; and two sisters, Veretta Stump and Velma Tillery Morris

The Rev. Clarence Newman will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 26, at the First Southern Baptist Church, Fort Scott. Burial will follow in the Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, Mo. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Southern Baptist Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
