Walter Clifton Gammon

Walter Clifton Gammon, 84, Grain Valley, Mo., formerly of Walker, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at his home in Grain Valley, following a lengthy illness. He was born March 31, 1927, in Walker, to John B. Gammon and Myrtle Mae Newland Gammon. He married Betty N. Crockett on May 16, 1947, in Fort Scott, Kan., and she survives of the home.

Walter was a graduate of Walker High School in 1947. He worked for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., and for General Motors in Kansas City for five years before being promoted to supervisor and transferring to New Jersey. Walter later went to California to work for Republic Aviation at Edwards Air Force Base. He also worked in aviation in Cheyenne, Wyo., Roswell, N.M., Whiteman Air Force Base, and retired from TWA in Kansas City. He then worked as a self-employed carpenter in home construction until his retirement. He had lived in Grain Valley for the past three years.

Survivors include his wife Betty, of the home; two sons, Tim Gammon, Austin, Texas, and Terry Gammon and his wife, Mary, Bates City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Gammon and Matthew Gammon; one brother, Leo Gammon, Walker, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Wright, Jean Litch and Eva May Beilke; and two brothers, Leroy Gammon and Murl D. Gammon.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 3, at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Walker, with Jeff Gammon officiating. Friends may call now until the hour of service and the family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m., Monday, at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada.
