Cottey drops two at home tourney

NEVADA--The Cottey College women's volleyball team dropped two matches on Saturday.
Fort Scott beat Cottey 25-23, 25-12, 25-16.
"We led the entire way in game one, but started playing timid," Cottey Coach Marla Kannady Foreman said. "In game two, we just allowed too many mental errors and they pretty much had their way with us. In game three we had spurts in which we would come back and make a move aggressively, but the point rallies were short-lived."
Sam Pierce had six kills and Lindsey Aldridge added four for the Comets. Rachel Massey had 22 digs, while Alexis Self added nine and Kristina Coverdell chipped in six. Self had seven assists and Taylor McCue added five.
After Fort Scott defeated Stephens in three sets, the Comets took on Stephens in the final match.
Stephens defeated Cottey 25-13, 25-6, 25-16.
"There isn't really anything more I can say that I haven't already stated about my players and what they need to do to be more competitive," Foreman said. "They are either going to clue in or not. Game two was flat out embarrassing, period. We are much better than six points to any team we play on our schedule, period."
Aldridge had four kills, while Self and Coverdell had three apiece. Self had six assists and McCue had five. Massey had 19 digs.
Cottey is now 4-14 on the season and hosts Longview on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Family Weekend
Cottey celebrated Family Weekend and also held a Dig Pink event.
"I coached on Saturday in honor of my mother, Vonnie Main, who has breast cancer, and in honor of my father, Dean Main, who has a rare sarcoma cancer," Foreman said.
The Comets recognized people they know who are fighting cancer or who have lost their battle.
