Antique show rolls into the Nevada Speedway
The Southwest Missouri Chapter of the International Harvester Binders Club will be holding the first Nevada Antique Show and swap meet at the Nevada Speedway on Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011. Gates will open at 8 a.m. and the event will run until 5 p.m. each day. Admission will be $3 each day of the event.
The show will feature antique vehicles, trucks, tractors and engines of all kinds, according to organizer Del Agee of Nevada. Agee said that several area communities have similar shows, but there has never been one in Nevada.
Agee expects a good turnout for the event. "If everybody shows up that's supposed to, we should have over 100 exhibitors," he said. Agee noted that weather does play a role in such an event, but said that many of the exhibitors will show up no matter what. It's just what they do, he said.
Agee said he expects a good turnout by Members of the Historical Truck Society. They have chapters in Kansas City, Mo., Springfield, Mo. and many other cities and states. Visitors to the show can expect to see everything from antique cars and trucks to over-the-road rigs, said Agee. There also will be antique engines like those that used to power farm equipment before the use of the power take off unit that is used now.
This is not a contest, just a show where exhibitors can gather to enjoy their hobby and camaraderie, said Agee. There will be no trophies awarded. Those things sometimes turn political, he said and "some folks leave mad."
There will be a slow race and a parade of vehicles around the track, and one exhibitor has agreed to put on a blacksmithing demonstration. The concession stand will be open to provide food and drinks. "Just bring what you've got" and have fun, said Agee.
