Mayor proclaims Buddy Poppy Days in Nevada

Nevada Mayor Bryan Leonard presents a proclamation to John Driskell, Ralph 'V. Bobbett VFW Post No. 2175 commander designating Oct. 28 and 29 as VFW Buddy Poppy Days in Nevada. Also pictured are Laverne Monroe, Ladies Auxiliary president and Dan Sherrell, past commander.

According to the proclamation the "VFW Buddy Poppies are assembled by disabled veterans, and the proceeds of this worthy fund-raising campaign are used exclusively for the benefit of disabled and needy veterans, and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans ...

"The basic purpose of the annual distribution of Buddy Poppies by the Veterans of Foreign Wars is eloquently reflected in the desire to 'Honor the Dead by Helping the Living.'"

You can make fun of these proclamations and the mayor presenting them all you want. But for your information 'tommydevito', these organizations ask the mayor to present the proclamations to recognize the accomplishments or the cause of their specific group.

These proclamations might be a form of humor to you, but to the organizations that receive them, these proclamations are welcomed and appreciated. That is why the groups ask the mayor, (whoever it is at the time) to present these proclamations year after year..."For the recognition of their cause and to remind everyone in the community to support their efforts as well."

Thank you Nevada Daily Mail for publishing the pictures of the proclamations. It means a lot to the groups that receive them.

Thank you City of Nevada Mayor, current and past, for taking the time to present these proclamations.

They do mean something to these groups.
