Novak files, Damon withdraws

Filing for the 2012 city council election runs until 5 p.m., Nov. 22 and as of Wednesday there were two candidates for the two open seats, incumbents Seth Barrett, who filed Oct. 18, and Jayne Novak, who filed at 8:03 Wednesday morning. Myron Damon, who had filed earlier for the election, withdrew from the election on Tuesday.

If more than four candidates file for the two seats there will be a primary election Feb. 7, 2012.

"Pop Gun" lives outside the city limits so is not eligible to run.

I was not condemning you for living outside was just stating that is why you don't run. The only difference in what you bring to the city as opposed to me is that I actually own property inside the city limits. Although I don't reside inside I do pay property tax to the city.

Howie what business do you own, I also own a business and live outside city limits.........people don't even begin to understand that as a business owner everything the city does can in some way effect us.

I owned a business in Nevada for almost 20 years. And for 20 years before that in another city. Nevada made it far more difficult to navigate city rules than the other city. And the other city is growing as fast as Nevada is shrinking.

So are you saying none of the council members have a vested interest in our town other than their residence.

I don't have answers to your questions and I doubt you do either, maybe an opinion but no true answers. What I do believe is that the questions you ask are not problems only Nevada has but those of all communities. Young people today can't wait to get out of the communities they grow up in. They want to get out in the world, I like to call it the grass is always greener syndrome. Truthfully I don't think any of our council members have isolated themselves as you are indicating. We obviously don't agree on this, so I will just agree to disagree.

From what I understand of council members, don't each of them have jobs that require patronage by the community? I believe they have personal vested interests in seeing Nevada do well; that is why they hold office. Surely it is not for the fame and glory.

I grew up in a small midwestern town; could not wait to get out. I have lived in cities large and small, but chose to return to a small town - specifically this one - to raise my family. Just because students don't choose to stay here, it doesn't mean they won't learn important civic lessons here and become contributing members of society. We do have a nice group of young professionals who went off to school and came back here and make good citizens, though. This is a good town for younger leadership under 45. I know they are still raising children, but maybe some of them will be able to run for office when needed.

I don't actually think howitzer owns his business. Howitzer, isn't you business owned by Travis Barker and you only run the shop while he does IT work?

Do you have any idea what it is like to read one side of a conversation. you end up scratching your head saying what? I know one thing for sure. Howi has got into all of your heads. It is interesting to me how one person can get so many people fired up. I think several of you either sit at home or cant wait to get home to see if he has commented on what you have to say. I wonder if you mope around the house kicking the cat if he misses a day. A sure sign of a sheeple is when the can be controled so easy. I will admit I do log on every few days to see how he is pulling your strings. Dance puppets dance.
