NPD hosts second citizens' academy
Graduates of the Nevada Police Department's second Citizens' Police Academy stand for a photograph after graduation ceremonies were conducted in the City Council chambers of the Public Safety Building at 120 S. Ash St. in Nevada on Thursday. Through the program, citizens learn about aspects of the everyday lives of police officers on duty, and about many of the societal and legal issues that impact police work. During Thursday's ceremony, graduates were addressed by Nevada Police Chief Graham Burnley who said, "Thank you for your participation." He said his department enjoyed the public interaction and asked the group to "tell me what you learned here." Graduate Frank Arnold said he liked the fact that "every class had something to take home," and graduate Brian Fisk said, "I liked the crime scene" investigation part of the course. Graduates filled out evaluation forms and were given a chance to comment verbally on how they thought the program could be improved prior to receiving their certificates. Punch and cookies were served after the ceremony. Graduates and some of the Nevada officers participating are seated, left to right: Sharon Ashby, Lindsay Baldwin, Pat Arnold and Dan Barnett.
