David Lynn (Pappy) Heard Sr.

David Lynn (Pappy) Heard Sr., loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, age 75, of Bealeton, Va., passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 29, 1936, in Tyler, Texas, son of the late Gilbert and Marion (Mendenhall) Heard. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps for 16 years and fire chief of the Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department. David was a life member of DAV, life member of VFW and a member of American Legion Post 10.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Greg Heard, and one brother, Harvey Heard.

Survivors include his loving wife, Linda F. Heard; eight children including two stepdaughters, David Jr., Stephanie, Kimberly, David Wayne, Richard, Michele, Chrissy and Shelly; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 27, at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 28. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to HPDA, Richmond Metro Chapter, in care of the McGuire Veterans Hospital in loving memory of David Heard Sr.
