Kids cowboy up for Rodeo Day
Champion team roper Kolby Boos helps Elijah Gage learn how to rope a steer during Rodeo Day at the Nevada Head Start on Wednesday. Children at the center got to dress up like cowboys and wore hats, chaps, scarves and vests. They rode a stick horse, practiced roping, barrel racing, bull riding and pitching horseshoes. The 3- to 5-year-old students 'wanted to learn about rodeo"" said teacher Kayla Morrison. Morrison organized the event, bringing in Boos and ex-bullrider now bullfighter Ronnie Whitten both of Hume, Mo. Facepainters Hannah Jacobs and Haleigh Whitten also demonstrated bullriding for the children. Boos is the 2010-'11 National High School Team Roping Champion and is currently an intercollegiate ranked team roper at Western Oklahoma State in Altos, Okla. Boos is no stranger to the Head Start. Last year he appeared at the Head Start as The Cat in the Hat and just a couple of weeks ago he showed up with his roping horse and a miniature donkey.
