Catherine Logan McCann died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at Bishop Spencer Place in Kansas City. She was born July 28, 1913, in Nevada, Mo., to Charles A. and Amy (Harding) Logan. She grew up in Nevada and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1936.

She was devoted to her family and is survived by her beloved sons Charles H. McCann (Marjean), St. Joseph, and the Rev. John H. McCann (the Rev. Susan), Liberty; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several cousins; and many friends.

She was a dedicated and faithful life-long member of the Episcopal Church, a noted equestrian, an accomplished pianist, and one who loved classical music. For many years she resided in St. Joseph where her sons grew up, and then lived 30 years in Mission Hills, Kan. In 1979, she began to fulfill a life-long promise she made to herself to see the world "with her own eyes." She was a spirited adventurer whose travels included the Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia, riding camels near the Sphinx, Victoria Falls, canoeing up the Congo River, the Trans-Siberian Railroad, and tea with the Dahli Lama. Many of her adventures were in the most isolated, remote places on earth where lodging was tents or mud huts. She was especially excited to have hiked in the Himalayan foothills with Tenzing Norgay, a member of the team that first summited Mt. Everest.

The funeral service will be at Grace Episcopal Church, 520 S. 291 Highway, Liberty, Mo., Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Grace Episcopal Church, 520 S. 291 Highway, Liberty, MO 64068, or Christ Episcopal Church, 207 N. Seventh Street, St. Joseph, MO 64501.
