Nevada girls finish strong vs. Bulldogs
CARL JUNCTION -- A quick start and a strong finish led the Nevada High School girls basketball team to a 65-51 win over Carl Junction on Tuesday night in the first round of the Lady Bulldog Classic.
Third-seeded Nevada (2-0) will take on second-seeded Webb City on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in one semifinal.
Freshman Mikayla Bartlett led Nevada with 17 points. Two others were in double figures for the Tigers, as senior Tiffani Long added 12 and junior Tori Dahmer scored 10 before fouling out.
The Tigers got off to a quick start, leading by 14 points in the first quarter. Sixth-seeded Carl Junction fought back in the second period. Ashley Shumaker scored six-straight points early in the fourth quarter, as Nevada's pressure forced several Bulldog turnovers. After a free throw from Bailey Harbit, Nevada pulled away at 60-45.
