Bronaugh splits with Jasper

BRONAUGH -- Breanna Householder's putback just before the buzzer gave the Bronaugh High School girls basketball team a 27-26 win over Jasper on Monday night.

Jasper won the boys game 37-33.

With her team down one and only seconds remaining, Householder grabbed Martell Moore's miss and tossed it in to give the Wildcats a thrilling victory.

The game was close all the way.

After hoops from Householder and Moore, the game was tied at 25.

Jasper's Ashley Porter made one of two free throws with 21 seconds left to give the Eagles a 26-25 lead.

Bronaugh missed two short jumpers, but then a jumpball gave the hosts another chance with only six seconds left. That's when Moore's shot was off the mark, but Householder was able to grab the offensive rebound and score just before the buzzer.

Boys fall

Jasper pulled out a close win in the varsity boys contest.

Bronaugh's Josh Willis scored five-straight points in the fourth quarter and the host Wildcats led 30-29.

Next, Bronaugh's Nick Hoye scored in the lane and the Wildcats led 32-29 with 1:30 left in the game.

The Wildcats missed two free throws, but then Jasper turned the ball over. Bronaugh's Chance Wait made one of two free throws after a foul and it was 33-29 with only 55 seconds left.

Jasper missed two jumpers, but then Bronaugh turned the ball over.

Jasper's Matt Stump stole the ball and made a layup the other way. He also drew a foul on the play and hit the free throw to cut Bronaugh's lead to 33-32 with 21 seconds left.

Bronaugh then turned the ball over again. Jasper's Stump scored on an out of bounds play with 12 seconds left to give his team a 34-33 lead.

The Wildcats then lost the ball and fouled. Next, Bronaugh Coach Jim Hillman was hit with his second technical and was ejected.

Jasper hit three of six free throws for the final margin.
