VCAD still in need of toys

NEVADA, Mo. -- The Vernon County Ambulance District is in desperate need of toys for its annual toy giveaway on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

"I have 470 children on my list -- last year I did 400," VCAD head of billing and secretary Jeri Senkevech said late Friday afternoon.

She said most of Friday was spent filling bags with toys and staffers finding out where they were short.

They have some money to purchase toys, but the more donations they have for new toys, the further the money they have will go.

Senkevech said Friday that she is in need of toys for 30-plus 2-year-old boys as well as 8-, 9-, 11- and 12-year old boys.

They also need toys for 8, 9-, 10-, 11- and 12-year old girls.

"We need to have the toys by Monday morning," she said.

The ambulance district still has its toy collection barrels at several locations around town where toys can be dropped off: the Dollar General next to Woods Supermarket; Wal-Mart; Country Inn & Suites; Pine Street Baptist Church; and Osage Prairie YMCA.

There is also a collection barrel at the ambulance district, located at 515 E. Walnut. Anyone wishing to donate money can leave it in the ambulance district's mail box.
