Parking could be limited on Friday night at NHS

On Friday Nevada High School is hosting two events -- boys basketball vs. East Newton and the NHS Debate and Forensics Tournament. NHS Athletic Director Kevin McKinley said basketball fans and visitors from East Newton are encouraged to use the North entrance to Wynn Gymnasium off of Ashland Street.

"Parking on the south side (Hickory Street) will be at a premium with the buses and visitors from 22 area schools along with judges, time keepers and etc," McKinley said. "The building hallways will also be congested on the south side due to the number of visitors and participants related to the speech and debate tournament."

McKinley added basketball fans can utilize the parking lots adjacent to the tennis courts and also the Truman Elementary school parking lot along with the small parking lot directly west of the gymnasium. All of these parking areas are accessible from Ashland Street.

A busy week for NHS boys

The Tigers have two more dates this week. Nevada heads to Carthage on Thursday night. Coming off a third place finish at the Neosho Holiday Classic, Carthage entered Tuesday's game with Branson with an 8-3 record.

"They will probably be the best team we've seen so far," Nevada Coach John McNeley said after Tuesday's win over Clinton. "It will be a challenge."

Nevada hosts East Newton on Friday to complete its third game in four nights.

Nevada girls hitting the road

Now 8-3 on the season, Nevada's girls travel to Springfield on Friday to take on Kickapoo. Brent Bartlett's Tigers then head to Bolivar on Monday, Jan. 9. Bartlett said both teams should be solid.

"Our next five games will all be tough," Bartlett said.
