Calvin Leroy Higgins
Calvin Leroy Higgins, 71, Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at his home in Sheldon. He was born Feb. 14, 1940, in Jerico Springs, Mo., to Walter "Glen" Higgins and Nellie M. Rector Higgins. He was married Aug. 4, 1974, in Cedarville, Mo., to Mary Virginia Lutes and she preceded him in death July 18, 1992.
Mr. Higgins was raised on a farm near Jerico Springs in Dade County, Mo. He graduated from Lockwood High School in 1958. For a time he worked at the family grocery store, Higgins Grocery, in Jerico Springs. Calvin served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and spent 13 months in Vietnam during the Vietnam Conflict. He farmed and raised Charolais cattle near Sheldon, Mo., for many years.
Survivors include five siblings, J. L. "Joe" Higgins and his wife, Sandra, Carthage, Mo., Gladys Percy, Eugene, Ore., Pansy Hickman, Jerico Springs, Mo., Patsy Shields and her husband, James, Boerne, Texas, and Billy Higgins, Springfield, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Lonnie Pennell officiating. Interment will follow, with military honors, at Sheldon Cemetery in Sheldon, Mo.
