Second, third candidates file for seats on R-5 board
It is official. The Nevada R-5 Board of Education will be holding an election for two open board seats on April 3.
Two new candidates filed for the seats Monday, Tommy Transue and Tim Moore, bringing the total to three. Incumbent board member Mike McCaffree had filed for the election previously. The filing period for the board ends at 5 p.m. today.
Had no additional candidates filed, there would have been no requirement for an election and the board would have appointed someone to fill the vacant seat.
State law requires that candidates for most Missouri school boards must be a U.S. citizen, a resident taxpayer of the district, a resident of Missouri for one year before the election and 24 years old. They may not be employees of the district. All newly elected school board members are required to get 16 hours of training during their first year on the board.
