Reichard, Tigers shine at Carthage Invitational swim meet

CARTHAGE --If you ask Coach Amyl Bishop, the Nevada High School girls swim team continues to make progress in the right direction.

This was evident on Saturday, as Nevada finished third at the Carthage Invitational at the Fair Acres Family YMCA pool.

"I think we did very well today," Coach Bishop said at the meet's conclusion. "I'm very excited about our 200 free relay. Our goal was to get under 1:50 and we got pretty darn close today."

Added Bishop: "We made some progress today. We took a lot of time off and the girls just did a really good job."

Nevada's 200 medley relay team of Megan Messick, Tayrin Schmitt, Emma Denman and Grace Reichard took first place with a time of 2:06.

The team's 200 freestyle relay team of Denman, Messick, Schmitt and Reichard took second, finishing in 1:50.65.

Nevada's 400 freestyle relay team of Abbie Landoll, Rees Noble, Tori Chrisenberry and Elizabeth Prewitt took fifth.

A sophomore, Reichard won the 50 free (25.11) and also took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09).

Schmitt finished third in the 200 free (2:15), while Prewitt finished 12th (2:40). Schmitt took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:19).

Prewitt was fifth in the 500 freestyle (7:10) and Landoll finished 10th.

Messick took fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:13) and Denman was eighth.

Messick also finished fourth in the 100 back.

Denman was ninth in the 200 IM. Noble was 10th in the 50 free, while Olivia Culbertson took 14th and Chrisenberry was 17th.

Noble finished 12th in the 100 free, while Culbertson was 15th and Chrisenberry was 17th. Landoll was 13th in the 100 breaststroke.

The girls swim team is scheduled to compete at Webb City on Saturday.
