MONETT--The Nevada Tigers are back above .500.

The NHS boys basketball team earned a 70-54 victory at Monett on Tuesday night.

With the win, Nevada is now 8-7 on the season.

Silas Smith poured in 25 points to lead the way for Nevada. Drew Bryson added 15 and Joseph Ferry also reached double figures with 11.

Monett held a slim lead early in the game.

After a strong second quarter, Nevada led 34-27 at the half.

Points from Smith and Ferry late in the third period gave Nevada a 48-36 cushion.

The Cubs used a late push to cut Nevada's lead down to single digits, 48-40, heading into the fourth quarter.

The two teams traded hoops early in the fourth, but a Smith three-pointer and a Ferry hoop inside gave the Tigers some breathing room. Late points from Bryson and Isaiah Colopy sealed the win.

It was Nevada's second-straight win.

Monett is now 5-10.

Nevada hosts Kansas City Northeast on Friday night at 6 p.m.

The NHS varsity girls will follow the boys with a contest against Carthage at about 7:30 p.m.
