The Cottey College basketball team's record dropped below .500 for the first time all season, as the Comets fell to North Central Missouri College in Trenton Wednesday night by the score of 73-60.
North Central handed Cottey three of its four losses last season, and the Lady Pirates continued their domination of the Comets this season.
The first half was a close battle, with the home team taking a slight 31-27 lead into the break.
After intermission, however, NCMC came out on fire, scoring the first 10 points of the second half and taking a commanding 41-27 lead.
Jordan Davidson was the leading scorer for the Comets with 18 points. Close behind Davidson was Santana Cruz, who added 14 points of her own. Bailey Braden was in double figures with 10 points on the night.
The loss dropped the Comets to 5-6 on the season and 0-2 in Region XVI play.
The Comets have one more road game before returning to Cottey.
On Saturday the Comets will travel to Hesston, Kansas, to face Hesston College.
The next home game will be on Tuesday, January 24, when the Comets will tip off against the junior varsity of Ottawa University at 6 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Hinkhouse Gymnasium.
