School board races contested at Sheldon and Bronaugh
Two rural Vernon County school districts will have contested races in the April 3 election while a third district is seeing two veteran board members retire and two new men run unopposed for the positions they are vacating.
Tuesday's 5 p.m. filing deadline passed with Sheldon R-8 incumbents Julie Casey and Michelle Claflin being opposed by would-be new decision-makers Daniel Laning and Joanne Dedrick, a district official said Thursday.
In Bronaugh, Ryan Linn is challenging R-7 incumbents Jeremy Weaver and David Reedy for new three-year terms, reported School Secretary Patty Clinton.
And in the Walker-based Northeast Vernon County School District, neither Andy Hays nor Dennis Vantellman is seeking re-election, Superintendent Charles Naas said Thursday.
However, NEVC area residents Bill Alexander and Rob Weisensee have filed to take Hays' and Vantellman's places on the school panel, which has just been awarded a $171,500 loan from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to renovate the district's 80-year-old-plus school buildings at Walker and Schell City, Naas said.
School board races and city council elections are decided on the same day each spring in Missouri.
