School board recognition week
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has declared the week of Jan. 22-28 as School Board Recognition Week to honor Missouri residents who dedicate their energies as well as countless hours to their local school districts. There are more than 3,600 school board members in Missouri. They are all elected by local constituents and do not receive any compensation for their service. The purpose of the week is to build awareness and understanding of the important function an elected board of education plays in communities and schools. School Board Recognition Week is sponsored by the Missouri School Board's Association, which is a not-for-profit organization that exists to help school boards succeed.
